Re: Tidal power in Maine; you said, "Sounds like a long way to go before we see any significant use of this. " But... the article shows: Ocean Renewable Power Co (ORPC) will soon deliver tidal energy to the U.S. Coast Guard's Eastport station through a battery electrical supply system, the first application of tidal energy by a federal agency.
ORPC holds FERC preliminary permits and is working to get FERC pilot project licenses for sites in Maine and Alaska which are world-class tidal resources. (The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is the United States federal agency with jurisdiction over interstate electricity sales, wholesale electric rates, hydroelectric licensing, natural gas pricing, and oil pipeline rates. FERC also reviews and authorizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, interstate natural gas pipelines and non-federal hydropower projects.)
